Night Rod Special and V-Rod parts: the year matters

The Night Rod Special shares its air filter with the earliest V-Rod, but its front brake pads change after the first year. Backrest hardware has a separate cutoff, and the Muscle is excluded from several accessories that fit the Special. We list the VRSCDX from 2007 to 2017; use the table to separate those breaks before choosing brake pads.

Brake pads and the shared air filter

For a 2007 Special, choose front pads 42897-06A; for 2008–2017, choose 42897-08. Rear pads 42850-06B cover both groups. The earlier VRSCA has another split in 2006, so a listing headed simply “V-Rod” is not enough. For the original airbox, filter 29437-01A is shared across the 2002–2017 VRSC range. Open the replacement air filter to check that part.

Keep the black finish, change the touch points

Get-A-Grip 56100008 gives the Special black, rubber-covered grips; its glueless design allows removal for later handlebar changes. Compare hand grips. Turn-signal extension caps 71500179 bring the switch closer to your thumb and replace the original caps without rewiring; find them in switch controls.

Black Empire mirrors 56000294A include the pair and mounting hardware. They fit the Special but explicitly exclude the Muscle, so do not transfer the recommendation between those bikes. Browse the Special’s mirrors.

Backrest hardware is not a complete backrest

Chrome kit 94112-04 replaces exposed fixings on a bike already equipped with a fender base plate and sissy-bar upright. Its fitment ends at 2011 and excludes the Muscle. It does not supply those large components: check the hardware kit against what is already fitted.
