Match the backrest to the rider, seat or luggage carrier

This category brings together rider-backrest assemblies, passenger pads for uprights and pads for luggage carriers. Start with who needs support and what the pad attaches to. A matching upholstery style cannot replace the correct receiver, upright or Tour-Pak type.

Choose your year before comparing mounting requirements. The all-years selection can include different seat receivers and several generations of Tour-Pak luggage.

A rider backrest needs the right seat and mount

Adjustable Rider Backrest 52300731 works with its specified slotted seats and requires a separate model-specific mounting kit. Hammock Backrest 52300745 instead slips into the receiver in the listed Hammock seats, including 52000746/52000747; it does not fit the original-equipment seat. It includes the backrest assembly and protective grab-strap pad. These attachment systems should not be chosen interchangeably simply because both support the rider.

Grand Tour-Pak: main backrest versus heated lower pad

Smooth 52300748 is the shaped Grand Tour-Pak passenger backrest pad with side wings. Heated 52300821 replaces the lower pad on its specified Grand Tour-Pak and original-seat combinations; it is not a heated version of the whole main backrest. Its off/high/low setting follows the passenger heated-seat switch, and installation requires the dealer Digital Technician update. Neither pad includes a luggage carrier. Confirm the Grand Tour-Pak type and existing seat before selecting the part.

About these products

Grand Tour-Pak racks and passenger support

The Grand Tour-Pak film shows a complete luggage carrier, racks and passenger backrest pads. They are separate products. Its carrier overview describes a streamlined box, factory drilling for a separately sold wraparound backrest, hinges, a one-touch latch, box mat and lid tether, plus an optional LED rear-light kit. The products matched here are racks and pads: a link to one of them does not include that carrier, its fittings or the optional light kit.

The full-size Premium rack is designed for a Grand Tour-Pak with an armrest-style passenger backrest. H-D describes it as protecting both the lid and backrest from scratches. It uses lightweight steel tubing with welded joints and includes the necessary mounting hardware. Choose 53001081 for gloss black or 53001082 for chrome. The lower-profile Air Wing design offers a different, aerodynamic outline; its listing specifies a die-cast wing with lightweight steel tubing and included hardware. Air Wing 53001083 is gloss black and 53001084 is chrome.

Both rack types require the appropriate Grand Tour-Pak carrier lid on the listed Touring or Trike models. Consider the paint scheme as well as the rack shape: H-D notes that rack trim can cover pinstripes or two-tone lines, and may make small inconsistencies in hand-applied paint more apparent. The rack does not include a luggage carrier or passenger backrest.

The smooth wraparound backrest pad 52300748 has a curved shape that cradles the passenger’s back, with side wings sitting beneath the arms for additional support. Isolation mounts reduce contact between the pad and the luggage, while the smooth surface is intended to coordinate with different seats. It is a separate Grand Tour-Pak backrest pad, not the heated lower pad.

The heated lower backrest pad 52300821 replaces the original lower pad on the specified Grand Tour-Pak installation. Its off, high and low settings work in tandem with the passenger heated-seat switch. The exact listing specifies 2026-on FLHXL, FLTRXL and FLHLT with the original seat and identifies it as original equipment on 2026-on FLHXLSE and FLHLTSE. Dealer installation and a Digital Technician update are required for software connectivity. Confirm the exact pad, carrier, seat and motorcycle together; this is not a universal heated backrest.
