XR1200 parts: keep XR and XL separate

The XR1200 sits in the Sportster family, but its parts need an XR application. Its own front and rear brake-pad listings, air-filter element and tyre fitment give a better starting point than a broad “Sportster” label. The XR1200X also has its own page: its adjustable Showa suspension and full-floating front discs are meaningful equipment differences. Start with the catalogue code below, then compare the XR front pads and rear pads.

Separate the front and rear brake order

Front pads 42739-08 and rear pads 42310-08 are both specified for 2008–2013 XR models. That includes the XR1200X, but it does not establish that forks, discs or other chassis parts interchange. The front product is sold as a pair of pads; do not read “pair” as a whole-bike brake kit. Check the required quantity for your calipers when ordering the front set, and choose the rear set separately.

Change the grip feel without guessing the throttle fitment

Get-A-Grip 56100007 and Airflow 56100112 both explicitly list 2008–2013 XR fitment. The chrome Get-A-Grip is 1.5 inches in diameter; chrome Airflow is 1.6 inches. Both are supplied as left-and-right grips with a glueless design, so the diameter and profile are useful things to compare before choosing. Look at Get-A-Grip and Airflow for your existing controls.

For an easier reach to the indicators, extension caps 71500179 replace the original switch caps without rewiring. Their XR application ends at 2012, although the XR1200X picker also contains 2013. Keep that boundary when choosing the turn-signal extension caps.

An air-filter element is a replacement part

Element 29377-08 is listed for 2008–2012 XR models and is supplied as the filter only. It is not a complete accessory air-cleaner kit. Confirm the existing intake is still the original assembly, and do not extend the published application to the 2013 catalogue entry. Open the XR replacement air-filter element for its fitment details.

Keep the XR front tyre specification

Michelin Scorcher 11F 40879-11A is the listed 120/70ZR18 front tyre for the XR1200 and XR1200X. It is supplied as the tyre only, not a wheel or a front-and-rear set. Check the bike's actual wheels and the matching rear-tyre requirement with your tyre fitter before ordering the XR Scorcher front tyre. For the X-model's suspension distinction and shared parts, continue to the XR1200X guide.
