MCS starter solenoids give Harley-Davidson owners the direct-fit replacement heavy-duty solenoids needed to restore reliable starter engagement on Big Twin and Sportster models where the existing solenoid has begun to fail. The starter solenoid performs two functions simultaneously — it mechanically engages the starter drive gear with the engine ring gear using a plunger, and it closes the high-current contacts that route cranking amperage from the battery to the starter motor armature. A failing solenoid exhibits a characteristic single click or rapid clicking when the start button is pressed, without the starter motor turning — the contacts have worn past their service life and can no longer conduct reliably.
