Le carburateur Mikuni HSR42 Smoothbore est considéré comme l'une des meilleures améliorations de performance pour les moteurs Evolution Big Twin et Twin Cam. Il s'installe sur les Dyna, FXR, Softail et Touring, offrant une amélioration massive de la réponse à l'accélération et de la puissance à mi-régime. Contrairement aux modèles à papillon, le HSR42 utilise un boisseau plat sur roulements à rouleaux, libérant le venturi à plein gaz. Ce design augmente significativement le flux d'air, idéal pour les motos équipées de kits big bore, de cames ou d'échappements haute performance. Il dispose d'une pompe de reprise réglable et fonctionne avec les câbles de 1990–2017.
