Harley's own 360 Syn3 full synthetic is a safe no-argument choice for Milwaukee-Eight engines — it's approved for all three compartments (engine, primary, gearbox) in a single bottle. For engine oil specifically, Spectro Platinum and Motul 7100 at the correct viscosity are what most independent technicians reach for, and both save money over branded Harley oil without compromising protection. Whatever you choose, use JASO MA2-rated oil in the primary to protect the wet clutch.
The factory specifies 20W-50 for most Milwaukee-Eight applications, but 10W-40 is the common UK winter pick — temperatures here rarely sit above 10°C for long stretches, and a lighter grade gets oil to the heads faster on cold starts. On an air-cooled V-twin that matters more than it does on a water-cooled engine. Check your service manual; a handful of M8 specs require 20W-50 exclusively.
The factory interval for Milwaukee-Eight engines is 5,000 miles or annually — whichever comes first. In UK use with short runs, cold starts, and stop-start riding, many owners go to 3,000 miles or a spring-and-autumn schedule. The primary chaincase oil (a separate compartment on most Harleys) changes at the same interval and is the one most commonly skipped — don't leave it.
