This starter shaft housing gasket from James Gaskets is manufactured from .031-inch thick fiber-reinforced paper to ensure a durable, leak-free seal. Sold as a pack of ten, these gaskets are a direct replacement for OEM 31471-67A. They are designed to fit 1967 to 1980 Sportster models, though they exclude the 1970 to early 1979 XLCH configurations. In the shop, we use these to seal the interface between the starter housing and the primary, preventing oil leaks in a high-vibration area. The reinforced paper construction offers excellent resistance to heat and chemicals, making it a reliable choice for any Sportster starter service.
