First, they are used to align the oil pump to the cam support plate on 1999 to 2017 Twin Cam engines, which helps prevent oil scavenging issues caused by misalignment. Second, they are used to align the tappet blocks on late 1976 to 1999 Big Twin models, excluding Twin Cams, ensuring the lifters run perfectly true on the camshaft.
