It serves multiple roles depending on your bike's year and setup, acting as a replacement for OEM 47757-52. On 1975 to 1976 XL Sportsters, it is used for the shifter shaft in the primary cover. For 1952 to 1956 K-models and 1957 to 1978 XL Sportsters, it functions as the bushing for the brake crossover shaft. Over time, these bushings wear down, leading to sloppy shifting or inconsistent brake pedal feel. Replacing them restores the tight tolerances needed for smooth operation.
