Kibblewhite valve spring spacing shims adjust valve spring installed height. You place them under the spring seat or between the spring and the retainer to reach the correct pressure. Measure every spring pocket before you assemble the head. Shim heights add up quickly so check your maths twice. A miss at high rpm often traces back to wrong installed height.
