This clutch spring plate is a vital component for the smooth operation of the primary drive on late 1984 to 1990 XL Sportster models. Often referred to as the grenade plate by mechanics due to the tendency of the original brass rivets to fail over time, this MCS replacement is built to stock specifications to restore proper clutch engagement. It is designed to be used between the steel drive plates in standard applications, referencing OEM 36789-84. Only one of these plates is required per clutch pack. If you are noticing dragging or erratic shifting on your four-speed Sportster, replacing this riveted spring plate is a common and necessary fix to keep your transmission shifting cleanly.
