An MCS unmolded alternator stator for late 1984–1990 XL Sportster models. Unlike molded stators where the windings are encased in resin, this unmolded design allows for better air circulation around the coils. The improved cooling helps prevent the overheating issues that can plague stock stators, and generally results in a longer service life. If your Sportster is showing signs of charging problems — dimming lights, weak battery, or intermittent electrical faults — a fresh stator is often the fix, and this unmolded version is a worthwhile upgrade over the original.
